Dark Piano Nights Mix – Dark Music For Dark Nights

Dark Piano Nights is a combination of dark ambient with some various other styles that all come together to form a peaceful yet melancholic nighttime listening session. This is mostly free of vocals, but there are a few exceptions throughout. The music becomes more active at times than that of a strictly dark ambient set-list, but I think the flow is good and the music, which includes classical, jazz noir, and a mix of others, is all highly enjoyable. I hope you will also enjoy this mix on a lonely dark rainy evening, when you are alone with only your thoughts, a good book, and an internet connection. Cheers!

Dark Priest – Dark Ambient Mix

Earth has been witness to many religions, new and old. The world is an old place, and daemoniacal powers run back to her very birth. Follow This Is Darkness on a trip into the most corrupted of churches, monasteries and hermitages. The corruption of the religious order seeps from this mix. Strictly dark ambient, so this will remain reasonably subtle throughout the mix. Perfect for a night of reading some horrific dark fiction, playing irreligious video games, or meditation to invoke the darkest of powers. The Final Struggle – Darkness & Death Mix

A mix of dark ambient and death industrial music. The theme of this mix is a story of a dying planet, a protagonist at their wits end, the final struggle between life and death and ultimately defeat. The afterlife is enshrouded in turmoil and the final resting place of the soul is conjectured. This mix is at times serene with strong religiosity, and yet the mood and atmosphere is chaotic and constantly shifting, reflecting the final struggle in the before and after.

Dark Ambient Classics Mix

This mix features some of the greatest tracks throughout the history of the dark ambient genre. It contains a who’s who of several decades worth of post-industrial music as it evolved into what we know today as dark ambient. The mix was created by Przemyslaw Murzyn, who is currently the only other contributor to This Is Darkness. Przemyslaw has a fantastic resume in the dark ambient scene, as he’s been publishing dark ambient news and reviews on his website Santa Sangre for years. He is also an artist himself in the dark ambient project Embers Below Zero. I hope you will all enjoy his mix!

Near Eastern Dark Ambient Mix

A dark ambient mix using the near east as its theme. Tracks take listeners from the pyramids of Giza to Jerusalem to the ancient city of Damascus and many places in between. The idea for this mix was inspired by the recent release by Ager Sonus of Book of the Black Earth. I wondered how many near eastern themed tracks I could find, the answer is: a lot. Narrowing this down from over 9 hours worth of music to just over two hours, the mix starts with some more conventional dark ambient takes on these themes. As the mix progresses the theme becomes more and more pronounced. The latter half of the mix drew heavily from the Sombre Soniks compilation Dark Ambient Vol.8 which used an ancient Egyptian theme as its shared foundation. The Muslimgauze and Penjaga Insaf tracks brought some great field recordings into the mix. You can find links to all the albums in the track list below the player!

Sacral Dark Ambient Mix

This mix is full of irreligious splendor. Wander the halls of long forgotten cathedrals and churches. Perform the sacrilegious rites to bring the daemons upon our lands once again. This beautiful, yet disturbing mix takes a look at some of the sacral dark ambient music of the last two decades, with many newer tracks but some classics mixed in. Much of the mix stays calm and relaxed, but toward the middle some ghastly daemons arise, wreaking havoc on the land before slowly residing back into their slumbers.

The first mix in our “Guest Sessions” series for ThisIsDarkness.com is prepared by Pär Boström, the veteran dark ambient musician known for his projects Kammarheit, Cities Last Broadcast, Hymnambulae and Altarmang. Pär Boström has created a mix that showcases his love for the ritualistic, escapism and mysticism. All these elements come together to form a brilliant mix which is tailored for dreamers, yet it should be pleasing to just about any sort of dark ambient fan.
