The Inner Sanctum – A Dark Ambient Vlog: Episode 5

In episode 5 of The Inner Sanctum I share a few personal thoughts on H.P. Lovecraft, and talk about a new compilation dedicated to the master writer himself. From there on I discuss a diverse and surprising dark horror ambient album, and then give a quick demonstration of the Tibetan singing bowl. A brief glimpse at some of my dark ambient related cassette tapes is featured and then followed by a full review of a masterful dark ritualistic split album released on Noctivagant Collective.

The Inner Sanctum – A Dark Ambient Vlog: Episode 4

Joseph Mlodik, of the dark ambient project Noctilucant, is back with the fourth episode of his dark ambient vlog, The Inner Sanctum. On this episode Joseph speaks about dark ambient projects Svartsinn and Infinexhuma along with some other projects which we would call “On the Periphery” here. As usual, it’s great to hear the thoughts of a long time dark ambient fan, one with an inner perspective as well, since he also releases music within the genre. We’re proud to continue sharing his vlog episodes here and we hope you are enjoying them!

Michael Barnett

Episode 4 of The Inner Sanctum has arrived! This time around I talk about a dark ambient classic from Svartsinn, and then diverge a bit and talk about some more experimental electronic, noise and even dungeon synth related releases, before jumping back to form with a relatively new and exciting pure dark ambient release. Enjoy the darkness!

The Inner Sanctum – A Dark Ambient Vlog: Episode 3

Our newest contributor, Joseph Mlodik of Noctilucant, is back with the third episode of his new vlog series dedicated to dark ambient music. In this episode he covers a handful of albums, all of which he has in physical format to properly showcase. We hope you’ll enjoy the video and you can find links to all the featured albums below the player. Many of these artists and labels take big gambles on creating physical content for such a small and international community of listeners. So, lets do our part to show our appreciation for their talents, blood, sweat, and tears. Valete!
(This screen shot is priceless! I swear Joseph isn’t stoned out of his mind!)

The Inner Sanctum – A Dark Ambient Vlog: Episode I

Editor’s note: This first episode of Joseph’s was uploaded on Youtube on 20 March 2018. The following is Joseph’s personal introduction to his new series!

The Inner Sanctum: A Dark Ambient Vlog is a new video project series of mine where I’ll be talking about/reviewing/nerding-out on various aspects of dark ambient music and it’s related sub-genres.

In this first episode, I talk about two of my favorite albums, namely Seishinbyouin by Atrium Carceri and Inner Passage by Beneath the Lake.

This is my first time vlogging, but it’s something that has always intrigued me, and I figured, like anything in life, this is as good as any time to try it out. Most of what you see in the following 25 minutes was highly improvised, and (for better or worse) performed without any special rehearsals beforehand. Comments are highly appreciated and feedback of any sort is welcome! Thanks to everyone that has been checking out and subscribing to this channel [Joseph’s Youtube channel for his dark ambient project Noctilucant].

Thanks so much!

The Vlog itself is named after a Sabled Sun song — a project of Simon Heath (Atrium Carceri, Za Frumi, Abnocto, Cryo Chamber).

The Inner Sanctum – A Dark Ambient Vlog: Episode 2

Editor’s note: We are pleased to welcome Joseph Mlodik to This Is Darkness! His debut Noctilucant album, Back To The Mud, was one of the first releases I covered, when I started writing reviews for Terra Relicta in 2015. So, we’ve known each other for a few years now. After I saw his first vlog on Youtube last month (which you can watch here), I asked him to join This Is Darkness, officially partnering his vlog with our zine. So, this second episode will be the first of many covered here!

Here’s what Joseph has to say about this episode:
“In this episode I briefly discuss the new Mortiis book, Secrets of my Kingdom, reactions from the first episode, as well as, my new partnership with This is Darkness zine. There’s a full feature on a classic Northaunt album, and several shorter features on a few other dark ambient gems from years past.
Thanks for watching and enjoy the darkness!”
